Developers using their own models in Visual Studio 2026 must switch to the new Agent (Preview) after updating: the previous Ask and Agent modes no longer support BYOM. Previously configured Ollama models must also be added again. BYOM remains a preview feature, with supported providers including Microsoft Foundry, OpenAI, Anthropic and Ollama.
The Git agent can now summarize attached pull requests with links to files and comments, requiring GitHub or Azure DevOps MCP servers. NuGet Audit warnings can also launch a dependency-fix request in Copilot Chat, requiring Copilot sign-in and the NuGet MCP server. GitHub lists all Copilot plans, including Free, but directs users to Insiders for the latest features without specifying an IDE version.
