Developer and author
Hi, I'm Alex
I'm Alex, a website and application developer. I've been working professionally in web development for over ten years. I build websites from start to finish and continue to develop them after launch. My main tools are Python, Django and Wagtail CMS.

About development and this site
Websites from start to finish
Most of my experience is in building catalogues, product showcases and online stores, complete with blogs, news sections, curated collections, ratings, reviews and comments.
I handle the whole process: planning, design, frontend, backend, launch and ongoing support. I prefer to design directly in the browser, so clients can see and try an early version of their website.
I currently develop and maintain tourism websites for clients abroad, built on a shared codebase with different language versions. The work continues after launch: clients come back to me for new features, design changes and other improvements.
How I work
I care about how easy a website is to use: editors should be able to publish content without a struggle, visitors should find what they need, and forms and buttons should work as expected. I enjoy getting these details right — they shape the experience of using a website.
I use AI tools in my work, while designing the solutions and checking the results myself.
Personal projects and open source
I like building tools that are missing from my everyday work. Sometimes an idea starts with a small inconvenience I run into again and again. Once I find a way to fix it, I want to share the solution with others.
That's how Commentail, an open-source commenting library for Wagtail, came about. It grew out of a recurring task: rewriting or adapting a comment system from one project to the next.
Desktop application development is a newer direction for me. I'm currently working on TaskRegent, an application for managing projects and tasks.
On my blog, I share my experience, talk about what I'm building and explain why I choose particular solutions. I release most of my own projects as open source.
If you need a website, an application or improvements to an existing project, get in touch and tell me about your task.
