GitHub begins enforcing the global default policy for Copilot features

Copilot Applies the Global Default

Developers using Copilot Business and Enterprise may see access change for previously unconfigured features and client capabilities. GitHub began enforcing the global default policy on October 22, with rollout scheduled through October 26; timing varies by enterprise or organization.

Eligible generally available capabilities marked Unconfigured will inherit the global choice: Enabled, Disabled, or Let organizations decide. This covers eligible settings under Features & clients and MCP servers in Copilot. Explicit permissions and restrictions remain intact, while preview features stay opt-in.

Administrators can review Default policy for new features under AI Controls → Copilot and explicitly configure individual features. This is a one-time application: later changes to the global default will not rewrite feature policies already set.
