GitHub Copilot assisted permissions become generally available

GitHub Copilot Assisted Permissions

Developers using Copilot CLI, the Copilot app or Visual Studio Code can now enable generally available assisted permissions. A language model evaluates requests to run commands, access file system paths or open URLs. Requests it classifies as clearly safe proceed automatically; others still require user approval. The decision therefore depends on the model’s classification.

Enable the mode through /permissions → assisted in the CLI, Tool permissions → Assisted in the app, or the permissions picker in VS Code. Enterprise policies can restrict this choice: administrators can disable Assisted separately or keep it available while blocking Allow All. If the configured default mode is unavailable or prohibited, a new session starts with manual approval.
