GitHub combines notifications and Copilot in Teams; legacy app retires November 16

GitHub Unifies Notifications and Code Proposals in Teams

Developers working in Microsoft Teams can move from an issue notification to a proposed code fix through the consolidated GitHub app. GitHub describes a workflow where mentioning @GitHub lets the agent investigate an issue, change code, and create a pull request. The team still reviews, tests, and merges the change; this workflow does not automatically ship it.

The consolidated app was previously called GitHub notifications. Existing users should update it; notifications in channels, group chats, and private chats will continue working. Users of the legacy GitHub app must install the consolidated app to keep using Copilot: the old app will become GitHub (deprecated) and retire November 16. Mention @GitHub, connect a GitHub account, and select a repository. The announcement does not specify subscription requirements.
