Microsoft has released its October non-security preview update for Windows 11 versions 26H2, 26H1, and 25H2. For 26H2, the highlights include Cloud rebuild: reinstalling Windows with an image and drivers downloaded from Windows Update, even when the system cannot start. No USB media or custom image is required.
In 26H2, File Explorer’s faster context menu lets users choose and organize commands and app extensions. Magnifier gains per-monitor zoom, a contrast theme, and viewport locking. The refreshed Gaming Task View in XBOX mode provides quick access to the desktop and power options; Phone Link previews recent messages and notifications when hovering over them in Start.
This is a non-security preview; the listed capabilities are not established for all three Windows versions. Microsoft also warns that some devices may require one additional restart during recent or upcoming updates after a Secure Boot certificate update.
