Safari 27.2 expands select styling and renames a Grid Lanes property

Safari Select Styling

Safari 27.2 is available, letting web developers style a select control’s displayed option text with the new ::field-content pseudo-element without adding selectedcontent to their HTML. The update also keeps large select pickers within the viewport.

In CSS Grid Lanes, flow-tolerance has been renamed to fit-tolerance. The old name temporarily remains a deprecated alias, and Web Inspector flags code needing an update. The property controls the tolerance used when choosing a column or row for the next item.

The release includes 20 fixes, addressing missing accessible-name content, repeated VoiceOver announcements and failures in user-activation-gated APIs such as Clipboard. It is available on macOS 27.2, Tahoe and Sequoia, plus iOS, iPadOS and visionOS 27.2. These changes do not establish cross-browser availability.
