Developers and content teams can now try Wagtail in a browser sandbox. The bakerydemo-webassembly demo includes access to the admin dashboard and is intended for learning the CMS or demonstrating features and experiments. It is a standalone demonstration, not a production deployment option.
Pyodide runs Python through WebAssembly in a web worker, which handles requests locally instead of sending them to an external server. Django and Wagtail run inside the browser, while a virtual filesystem backed by IndexedDB stores the database and media files. The authors say no data leaves the device.
The limitation is substantial: the browser must load the whole site before displaying a page. The authors warn that this resource-heavy approach is unsuitable for production or large-scale use.
