Linux Mint is preparing simpler hibernation setup so laptop users can save their session to disk and shut down without continuing to drain the battery. These are previews for the next Linux Mint version: development is ongoing, and no release number or date is specified.
A Sleep Modes page in System Administration will help enable hibernation. Support also includes Hybrid Sleep, which saves the session to disk before suspending, and Suspend-then-Hibernate, which hibernates at a critical battery level. Hibernation requires substantial swap space and can take longer than a reboot.
The new Superlight monitor will show resource use by applications and processes, battery information and storage consumption, including Steam and Flatpak. Nemo will gain an F7-toggleable preview pane for audio, images and video, alongside media information.
The Velocitty terminal will support moving tabs between windows, saving custom tabs with commands, and colour indicators for privileged and remote sessions. Unfold will handle viewing, creating and extracting archives, including encrypted formats supported by its 7zip and 7zip-RAR backends.
