GitHub rolls out shared Copilot automations for repositories

Shared Copilot Workflows Stay With the Repository

GitHub is rolling out shared Copilot Automations, letting developers maintain repository workflows together and keep them running after their creator leaves. Examples include reproducing bugs when issues open and capturing screenshots when pull requests become ready for review.

Anyone with repository read access can view a shared automation; write access allows editing. GitHub actions are attributed to Copilot, and AI credits are billed to the repository owner. Change history records updates to prompts, triggers, and tools.

Availability is rolling out across Pro, Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise plans. Organization repositories require an administrator to allow organization-billed cloud agent use. Select Shared when creating an automation: its type cannot be changed afterward.
