GitHub now lets repository administrators convert all branch protection rules in a repository to rulesets in one operation. Previously, conversion handled a single rule at a time. The update reduces manual work when migrating repositories with many protection rules. It is available wherever repository rulesets are supported.
Start from Settings → Rulesets → Import branch protection rules. Before confirming, administrators can preview the resulting rulesets, identify protections already covered, and select an enforcement status such as Active, Evaluate, or Disabled. The dialog also shows when preserving one rule’s behavior requires multiple rulesets. After creating them, administrators can keep or delete the original branch protection rules.
