Moderation and editor permissions

Review the queue, explain decisions and assign scoped permissions to editorial groups.

Lesson 4 / 22 · Commentail 1.3.2

Find a practice message under Comments. Filter by Site, status, date or Page, then open its card to inspect text, status and activity history. Check the addressee on replies and look for pending author revisions.

Try individual decisions

Approve a message and view the article in another browser. Hide it and confirm that it disappears publicly while remaining in the admin. Restore it and check again. Reject a pending message when that is the editorial decision; the author can see the reason, while email depends on its separate switch.

Moderators cannot rewrite an author's words. Authors submit their own revisions while eligible. Erasing text is irreversible; use it only when the content really needs removal. A deleted-message placeholder can remain when replies need their conversational context.

For a consistent queue, select rows on the current page and check the bulk action before applying it. Up to 100 records are supported. A changed status or permission can abort the entire operation; refresh and inspect the error rather than repeatedly clicking. Review author revisions individually.

Give a group appropriate access

Create an editorial group in Wagtail settings. Give it admin access and only the Commentail capabilities needed for the chosen Site. Viewing, moderation, hide/restore, text deletion, settings and rules are separate capabilities. Changing Comments in a Page editor additionally requires ordinary edit rights for that Page.

Word rules belong to the whole project. A rules permission granted through a Site row authorizes the common rule list. Per-Page moderator grants are not available. A list filter is not an access boundary.

Test with a separate group member account: it should access the intended Site, perform allowed operations and be denied prohibited ones. Testing as a superuser cannot establish this.

Enable Publication emails when authors need notice after moderator approval of a pending message or revision. Immediate publication does not create that notice. Rejection emails controls rejection notices. Guest confirmation, guest editing links and direct-reply notifications follow separate rules.
