I've been building websites with Wagtail for years, and I kept having to write a new comment system for almost every project. I've finally turned that work into a separate library: Commentail. Here's how it turned out and what I added in the first update.
On October 19, I released Commentail 1.0.0, the first stable version of my comments library for Wagtail. It has passed testing and runs on my own website. I am now ready to call it a full release and take responsibility for its continued development.
I have released Commentail 1.1.0. This version adds bulk comment actions, confirmation before erasing text, and preserved search and filters during moderation. I also updated admin navigation, staff highlighting and the rules for publication notifications.
Commentail 1.2.0 adds Django email backend support and a public entry point for the project’s task queue. It also updates the reply and guest forms and validates malformed input.
Commentail 1.3.0 adds Google reCAPTCHA and Yandex SmartCaptcha, guest attempt limits, and checks for repeated text and multiple links. Here is how they work and what changes when upgrading.
In Commentail 1.3.1 I changed how quota and submission fingerprints are stored, limited form issuance and tightened Site checks for Page discussions. The upgrade requires an irreversible data migration.
Commentail 1.3.2 fixes a regression in 1.3.1 that could make discussions on translated Wagtail pages unavailable. The Site check now includes trees rooted at translated homepages.
